A woman was raped in Fairview early Tuesday morning, September 11, 2007 by Martin Cana-Chocoj and Sergio Ramon-after she stepped off a NJ Transit bus. The two alleged perpetrators dragged her from a nearby NJ Transit bus stop and into an alleyway, where she was knocked unconscious and raped. Police say that's when an off-duty corrections officer driving by noticed something was wrong.
“He flagged down a patrol officer and indicated that there may have been something going on by the bank,” said Deputy Police Chief Frank Del Vecchio.
When the police and corrections officers returned, they saw one man make a run for it, and caught Cana-Chocoj in the act – witnessing him rape the unconscious woman.
The perpetrator jumped up and attempted to run and was apprehended by the police officer.
the Bergen County prosecutor's office arrested Estrada and his cousin Felix Chocoj Ortiz – who is charged with lying to police. Police are calling this a crime of opportunity, and say the woman did not know her attackers and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
All the perpetrators are illegal aliens from Guatemala.
The victim also suffered a fractured skull in the attack.
