Victim: Mary Nagle

Woman rapped nad murdered by illegal alien who then uses her cell phone to brag about crime to victim's friend's and family

Perpetrator: Douglas Herrera Castellanos

Crime Description:

Mary Nagle was raped and murdered on April 29, 2005 by illegal alien Douglas Herrera Castellanos, a native of Guatemala, who was hired as part of a crew painting the Nagle house in Rockland County, New York.

The victim's sister found the 42-year-old mother of two toung children in the upstairs master bedroom of her New City home. Nagle's naked, lifeless body was on the bed. Blood stains covered the carpet and walls.

An article in Newsday reported that not only did Castellanos rape and kill Mary Nagle in her own bedroom, but he followed up his brutal crime by using her cell phone to call 51 of her friends and family, sometimes to brag on the killing and to threaten them as well.

Castellanos was arrested a few hours after the murder. The New York Times reported that local people are now reluctant to hire foreigners as a result of the murder. Mr. Sandoval happened to know Mr. Herrera. He hired him to paint several rooms in his own house. "He was quiet; he was a good worker," Mr. Sandoval said. "I left for lunch and when I got back he had finished the room." Still, Mr. Sandoval said, if the charges against Mr. Herrera are true, he shudders at the memory. "I have a 15-year-old daughter and he was in my house," he said. "It's terrible."

Castellanos was charged with murder, rape, other sex crimes, robbery and burglary, for a total of 22 counts. "The defendant's been charged with multiple theories of murder in the first degree as well as murder in the second degree, basically under the felony murder theory that he committed the killing while he was robbing her, burglarizing the home, raping her and other sex acts," [prosecutor Louis] Valvo said. He said he could not remember a similar list against a defendant in his nine years as a prosecutor.

On May 15, 2006, WABC reported that Castellanos was sentenced to life in prison without parole. The sentence was imposed after the victim's husband, Daniel Nagle, said Douglas Herrera Castellanos "beat, cut, raped, sodomized and strangled the greatest love of my life and the mother of my two children." The sentencing came on what would have been the 13th wedding anniversary for Nagle and his wife Mary.

Herrera was convicted last month of first-degree murder in the killing of the 42-year-old woman at her home in New City. Herrera is a Guatemalan immigrant who was working for a house-painting contractor, he had been assigned to power-wash the Nagles' backyard deck. The 30-year-old worker entered the unlocked house and climbed the stairs to the master bedroom, where Nagle was changing into a tennis outfit. Herrera raped, stabbed, bludgeoned and choked the fighting victim to death. As he fled, Herrera allegedly used Nagle's cell phone to call several women, including one of her five sisters, and spoke lewdly about what he did.

Bill O'Reilly opened his Fox News television show 5/4/05 with a Talking Point Memo about the Nagle murder. “In 2002, the guy was arrested for beating up a woman, but the judge let him go. And he skipped his court appearance. Despite that, he was still able to get a job with the washing company because he carried a California driver's license. So Mary Nagle becomes yet another victim of illegal alien killers. She is no less a victim of our government's failure to protect us than all of those who died on 9/11. There are thousands of other Mary Nagles you will never hear about because the government doesn't keep statistics on murders by illegals and the liberal press doesn't want to report these kinds of stories. That's because the media generally supports lenient border policy, driver's licenses for illegals, sanctuary cities, and a "humane policy" for those who come to America illegally.
